The Spell of Us.jpg

Maelis is the seventh daughter and an unexpected gift to her parents from the Fates. In a world where magic and all forms of worship are forbidden, she has been struggling to hide her magical powers since childhood. Her forbidden gift and family obligations have taken away her ability to choose her own path.

Auretheos, the God of Wisdom and Cunning, is as clever as he is good-looking. His social skills could use some polishing, for sure, but he more than makes up for that with his intense stare and dedication to his destiny. A prophecy demands Auretheos (or Theo, for short) to remain pure and untouched by the world around him. Which really is just a fancy way of saying that he is to refrain from forming a physical relationship with anyone, and that he is bound to his life at the temple.

When Theo and Maelis fall for each other, their feelings complicate an already messy situation. As the Concord of Gods around Theo tries to fight the evil forces, Maelis must make a decision on whether she wants to follow fate or take matters into her own hands. If only there wasn't this undeniable connection she feels towards Auretheos, which is making it increasingly harder to not tempt him into giving in to his desires.

The tension between the Fates and free will is the heart of the human experience and ultimately leads to the question: Are we merely puppets of destiny, or do we hold the strings to our own stories?
